Roberto R. Muñoz

Professional Experience and Responsibilities
Roberto Muñoz is the South and South West Florida Market President for BBVA Compass. He oversees the commercial lending and domestic global wealth for the region, including leading a team of 40 members and creating a 13 member Board of Advisors.

Prior to joining BBVA Compass in 2011, Mr. Muñoz worked for Bank of America , 1980-1983 (Charlotte, NC); Barclay’s Bank PLC, 1984-1986 (London, England); Mizuho Bank, 1987-1997 (Tokyo, Japan); Israel Discount Bank, 1998-2004 (Tel Aviv, Israel); and Regions Financial Corp., 2005-2008 (Birmingham, AL).

Professional and Community Activities
Mr. Muñoz is active and currently serves in leadership roles in many South Florida civic organizations, including The Miami-Dade Beacon Council, where he is an executive Board member current chair of the banking and finance committee and incoming Chair Elect of the International Committee; Florida International Bankers Association as Founding Chair of the Asian Markets Committee, former Chairman, First Vice President and Treasurer; Trustee Board member of the Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, Board member of The Center for Financial Training Southeastern-AIB; Board member of The Center for Leadership Studies at Florida International University; Board and Trustee member of The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the Banking and Finance Committee and chair of the economic summit; Executive Board member of The Boy Scouts of America -South Florida Chapter; Trustee Board member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of South Florida and named “Man of the Year” in 2010 and received the inaugural “Philanthropist of the Year” award in 2015; Board member of The World Trade Center Miami, serving as co-chair of the newly created Trade Assistance Center Committee; and Corporate member of The Spain-US Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Muñoz received an Associate in Arts from Miami Dade College and his bachelor’s degree in finance and international business from Florida International University. Mr. Muñoz has received many diplomas and certificates within the field of banking from the University of Miami; Florida International University; AIB; ABA; and RMA.
